Shane Long.
Shane Patrick Long is an Irish professional footballer who plays as a striker for Southampton and the Republic of Ireland national team. He was born 22nd of January, 1987.

He has been ruled out of the Republic of Ireland's World Cup Qualifier against Wales because of a hip injury on Monday.

The 30 year old Southampton front-man had played for more than eighty (80) minutes of the Friday's 2-0 home win over Moldova.

This news really hit the Republic hard because they must beat Wales in Monday night group D match in  order to reach the play-offs for the finals in Russia.

Irish boss Martin O'Neill could now opt to start Daryl Murphy against Wales after the Nottingham Forest striker scored both goals in the 2-0 home win over Moldova on Friday night.

A win for either team will guarantee a November play-off at their opponents' expense and may yeild an automatic qualifying spot if Group d leaders Serbia falter in their last game at home to Georgia.

Honestly, I hope Shane quickly recovers from this injury and comes back to being the no nonsense striker he is known as on the team.
Best of luck on the next game against Wales.

Well what do we think would be the outcome of on Monday's match against Wales, share your views in the comment box below.
